Will the X-men ever come back from their exile in “licensed by Fox-land,” a purgatory of lessened emphasis, diminish licensing deals and general side-eye?  Who knows, but they are hanging in there with a relaunch into Blue and Gold teams, a throwback to the days of 1991 (which we just reminded you of). It’s by Marc Guggenheim and Ardian Syaf. There’s a preview of that below. But Marvel also tweet-teased a new book with Archangel and Logan involved, with teaser art apparently by Jim Cheung:

CBR has the rampant speculation based on minute details covered for ya:

Promising “The comic series fans have been demanding!” X-Men members Old Man Logan and Archangel can be seen, along with a center portion blacked out to hide potential cast members. The artwork appears to be from Jim Cheung, who had a long run on “X-Force” from issues #82 through #100. One look at the mutants visible hints at a possible relaunch of the black ops “X-Force” comic, considering both characters have starred in previous volumes of the series. Two other blacked-out individuals are holding guns in the air — one a pistol and the other a larger rifle. Could these be Cable and Deadpool, who are set to co-star in the sequel to the 2016 hit “Deadpool?” If not Deadpool, the person holding the pistol may be frequent X-Force member Fantomex.  It is interesting that the blackout in the center of the image seems to form the shape of an “X.”

Maybe X-forceish stuff then.

Meanwhile here’s that Gold book we told ya about:

  1. I am surprised by this X-Force-ish book, particularly the presence of OML in the Wolverine role instead of Daken or X-23. This feels like it’ll just be poaching the audience from Pak’s Weapon X book.

  2. The last time I read X-Men, Kitty Pryde was in a giant bullet that she phased through the Earth. Is it that return from space they are talking about? Or is it something else? And is Old Man Logan now taken from the future and put in the present? Or has he just become old since I read the comics last?

  3. @Hogne -No, Kitty was until recently one of the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, so that’s the return from space. As for Old Man Logan, he’s actually plucked from a different Earth, and integrated into the mainstream Marvel U during the Secret Wars event last year.
