Marvel has announced that Nebula, the cyborg sister of Guardian of the Galaxy Gamora, will star in a limited series launching in February 2020. The series will be written by Vita Ayala with interior art by Claire Roe and covers by Jen Bartel.

The character has appeared in Marvel comics since being introduced in Avengers #257 by Roger Stern, John Buscema, Tom Palmer, Christie Scheele, and Jim Novak in 1985, when Captain Marvel meets her in deep space.

More recently, Nebula has recently enjoyed a surge in popularity thanks to her appearances on the big screen, where she is portrayed by Karen Gillan. After first playing an antagonistic role in both Guardians of the Galaxy movies (2014 and 2017), Nebula played a significant supporting role in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), helping Earth’s Mightiest Heroes stand against her “adoptive” father, the Mad Titan Thanos.

Nebula is a morally complicated character who is not easily categorized as “good” or “evil,” and while her cybernetic enhancements make her a very formidable warrior, she did not come by them willingly. Series writer Ayala told Refinery29 that they hope to explore how the trauma experienced by Nebula motivates her to be the “bad hombre” we’ve all come to know and love.

Although the details currently known about the plot of the limited series are scant, Ayala classifies the story as a “Western” and says that Marvel fans can expect some familiar faces from the Marvel universe to make appearances.

The solicitation from Marvel reads:
