As part of the First Contact Day streaming celebration on StarTrek.com, a new teaser trailer has been unveiled for the second season of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the first episode of which will be available for streaming on Thursday, August 12th, 2021.

In addition, series creator and executive producer Mike McMahan announced in a Tweet that Lower Decks will be returning for a third season after the upcoming second season has concluded.

Judging from the footage included in the trailer, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos will have their hands full when the second season of Lower Decks premieres on Paramount+ this August, with Ensigns Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), D’Vana Tendi (Noël Wells), and Samanthan Rutherford (Eugene Cordero) returning to plenty of misadventures aboard the California-class starship. From a bunch of Cardassians to the Mugato from the Star Trek: Those Old Scientists episode “A Private Little War,” there’s plenty to get excited about in this teaser.

Plus, with Ensign Bradward Boimler (Jack Quaid) having transferred to the U.S.S. Titan at the conclusion of first season, it looks like we’ll be getting a glimpse of the chaos happening under the command of Captain Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) as well as under Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis).

Lower Decks
The USS Cerritos returns to Paramount+ on August 12, 2021.

The ten episodes that comprise the first season of Lower Decks is currently available for streaming on Paramount+, with an extras-packed home video version heading to DVD and Blu-Ray on May 11th, 2021 – which will itself include a pretty exciting trailer: one for Crisis Point: The Rise of Vindicta.

Which characters are you most excited to see return for the second season of Lower Decks? Have we really seen the last of Badgey (Jack McBrayer)? And is it worth securing a transfer to one of the Cali-class starships exclusively for the Mexican food they have programmed into their replicators?
