Cartoonist/animator Lisa Hanawalt is moving into the show creator role with  Tuca & Bertie, a 10-episode animated series set to run on Netflix. Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish is also on board as the voice of a lead character, Tuca, and an exec producer, THR reports.

Hanawalt has been a supervising producer on Bojack Horseman since it began, and Tuca & Bertie continue her animal-themes esthetic.

The show is described as

a comedy about the friendship between two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building: Tuca, a cocky, care-free toucan (Haddish), and Bertie, an anxious, daydreaming songbird.

Hanawalt executive produces alongside Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright (BoJack Horseman), Steven A. Cohen (BoJack Horseman, Jack & Bobby) and Haddish.

The very busy Haddish’s upcoming roles include The Kitchen, based on the Vertigo comics series, so she’s well into nerd land.

Hanawalt’s two books for D&Q – Hot Dog Taste Test and My Dumb Dirty Eyes – are laugh out loud classics of quirky, absurdist humor. It looks like Lisa was just too funny and talented not to move on to making her own animated TV shows! Congrats!
