On Tuesday, Disney released a set of photos featuring cast members of its upcoming Lion King live action remake. If it hasn’t already sunk how star-studded the movie is – this might do the trick. In this shoot by Kwaku Alston, which is even missing big names like James Earl Jones, and John Kani, we get a look at each voice actor along with their CGI counterpart.
First up is rapper, actor, writer and jack of all trades Donald Glover, nose to nose with Simba. Do they have matching beards?
Nala is brought to life by Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, who needs no introduction. But you can hear what her performance will be like in the trailer she dropped here.
Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street) as Timon, Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express, Long Shot) as Pumbaa and John Oliver (Last Week Tonight) as Zazu bring on the comic relief.
12 Years a Slave and A Series of Unfortunate Events star Alfre Woodard plays Queen of the Pride Lands and Simba’s mother, Sarabi.
Chiwetel Ejiofor, co-star to Woodard in 12 Years a Slave and Karl Mordo in Doctor Strange gives Scar a sinister stare.
Next is Scar’s peanut gallery, his nasty band of hyenas beginning with Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele, Friends from College) as Kamari. Marvel fans will recognize Florence Kasumba who plays Ayo in Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. She gives voice to Shenzi and Eric André, creator of The Eric Andre Show and 2 Broke Girls star plays Azizi.
Finally, the younger versions of The Lion King characters. Simba is voiced by singer and The Paynes star JD McCrary, while Us star Shahadi Wright Joseph makes the jump from horror to wholesome with her depiction of Nala.
The Lion King remake hits theaters in just a few weeks on July 18- check out the full trailer and stay tuned to The Beat for more.
