With two ongoing series from Image, a new one just announced, a graphic novel from S&S coming in a month, and Black Hammer from Dark Horse, as well as recent work for Marvel and Valiant, you might say that Jeff Lemire is RED HOT.

But he just got a little hotter, as his GN The Underwater Welder, originally published by Top Shelf, has been optioned by Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao and Anonymous Content for a feature film. Lemire, Chris Staros (Editor–in–Chief, Top Shelf), and Ted Adams (CEO and Publisher, IDW Publishing) are attached as executive producers.

The book involves a man with  a dangerous job who has a supernatural encounter underwater while dealing with his own issues of impending fatherhood. If your fantasties involve an extremeley handsome man welding underwater…well they just got some fuel.

The deal was brokered on Jeff Lemire’s behalf by Angela Cheng Caplan of the Cheng Caplan Company, Inc. and Allison Binder, esq. of Stone, Genow, Smelkinson, Binder & Christopher, LLP, and on Top Shelf/IDW’s behalf by Tuvyah Aronoff of Schwell Wimpfheimer & Associates.
