The LA Times has announced the finalists for its 2022 Book Prizes, and as always the graphic novel category presents several of the most notable books of last year – and one of the early indicators for this years comics awards.
Nominees are chosen by a judging panel, and the winner will be announced April 22 as part of the 27th Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, the first in person event since the pandemic began.
Finalists include an auspicious debut, a great return, a continuing master, a powerful Korean import and a book that already won the 2022 Asian/Pacific American Literature Award Winner for Adult Fiction.

Barry Windsor Smith’s Monsters should have made the cut. I haven’t read such a riveting graphic novel such as this since the days of Maus and Stuck Rubber Baby.
