World-renowned Dungeon Masters Satine Phoenix and Stefan Pokorny are going on an adventure — and they plan to film the entire thing. On Tuesday, Phoenix and Pokorny launched the Kickstarter campaign for Destination Fantastic!, an independent documentary travel show that explores the fabled origins of the fantasy genre and their impact on the ever-expanding world of Dungeons and Dragons.
In each episode, Phoenix and Pokorny will explore castles, dungeons, labyrinths, mythological creatures, folklore, fantasy games, sacred grounds, art, literature and history. Celebrities, experts and fanatics will join in on the fun and each episode will showcase the history of its location, starting with Iceland in episode one.
This pilot episode treks through the Icelandic valley where Thor supposedly struck the ground with Mjolnir and explores volcanoes and glaciers (or ice giants, depending on who you ask). The team hopes to raise at least $100,000 to complete the pilot, with stretch goals in place to produce up to nine additional episodes exploring New Zealand, Peru, Greece, the Easter Islands, Japan, Italy, France, Germany and the UK. As of Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET, the campaign has already raised more than $21,000.
According to a press release, the New Zealand episode has already been prepared and scouted; Phoenix and Pokorny hope to survey key locations from Peter Jackson‘s The Lord of the Rings films, with the assistance of Jackson himself.
The campaign is live on Kickstarter until Friday, Aug. 9 at 1:59 p.m. ET. In addition to funding the documentary series itself, backers can opt for a Storytellers Thesaurus, an brand new D&D module by Phoenix and Pokorny, limited edition miniatures, private classes and more.
