It’s Sue Richards’s time to shine. Marvel Comics has announced Invisible Woman, a five-issue solo miniseries for the matriarch of the Fantastic Four. The series is written by Mark Waid, with art by Mattia De Iulis and covers by Adam Hughes.
Here’s how the publisher describes the series:

Years ago, after becoming part of the Fantastic Four, everyone’s favorite Invisible Woman was taking on adventures of her own on an espionage mission for S.H.I.E.L.D. Now, it’s up to Sue to save her former partner from danger before it’s too late!

It sounds like the new miniseries will pick up threads from Waid’s 2014 S.H.I.E.L.D. series. The twelve-issue anthology series featured Phil Coulson recruiting a different superhero for a special mission for which their abilities were uniquely suited; the fourth issue of that series guest-starred Sue Richards.
Mark Waid is no stranger to the world of the Fantastic Four, having guided the team’s adventures alongside artist Mike Wieringo, among others, from 2002 through 2005. Mattia De Iulis’s most recent Marvel work was the digital-first Jessica Jones series with Kelly Thompson, which is well-worth seeking out either digitally now or when it’s available in print.
You can see Hughes’s cover for the first issue, as well as the full press release from Marvel on the title, below. Invisible Woman #1 (of 5) is due in stores in July.

New York, NY—April 9, 2019— She’s always been a super hero, fighting to keep the world safe with the Fantastic Four…and now, it’s time for Sue Storm to take the spotlight in her own series!

This July, the superstar creative team of Mark Waid (Avengers No Road Home, Doctor Strange), Mattia De Iulis (Jessica Jones), and Adam Hughes (Star Wars, Captain America) take Sue on a journey that will unlock the secrets of her past in the most surprising way!

Years ago, after becoming part of the Fantastic Four, everyone’s favorite Invisible Woman was taking on adventures of her own on an espionage mission for S.H.I.E.L.D. Now, it’s up to Sue to save her former partner from danger before it’s too late!

“In over fifty years, she’s never had her own title (or maybe she did and you just didn’t see it,)” teases SVP and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “Waid and Iulis will be delving into what Sue Richards does—and even who she is—on her own time, apart from her famous family! It’s sure to surprise some—as will a few of the gestures-players who’ll be passing through the story!”

Don’t miss Sue’s incredible adventures in INVISIBLE WOMAN #1, only in comic shops this July!

  1. I detect an Emma-Stone-esque quality to that Adam Hughes’ cover. I wonder if he maybe used Ms. Stone as a bit of a reference in depicting Ms. Storm…
