Marvel’s released another animal-centric infinity comic with INFINITY PAWS and I can’t stress how awesome it’s been to see an Avengers-level type of epic for the silliness of these critters. Created by Jason Loo with art by Nao Fuji, the Marvel animals line has been a blast to follow, especially in seeing how big it’s gotten over the years. As it stands, Jeff the Land Shark is easily one of the Unlimited line’s biggest hits of late with over a million views, atop the popularity of the Marvel Meow series with art by Nao FujiAll of this has been a large setup for an event such as this, where all the creators from Jeff the Land Shark to Alligator Loki, come together in a very silly but a-meow-zing battle.

As a quick review of INFINITY PAWS part one, the tale is super adorable, the art direction sublime, and the coloring surprisingly rich. What did surprise me though, is that some of these pages use a bit of traditional paneling and not the focus on vertical design. With perhaps a planned physical release plan in the future.

The story itself kicks off in Times Square and sees Kate Bishop and Black Widow battle against some baddies while their affiliated pets Lucky the Pizza Dog, Jeff the Land Shark, Chewie, Liho, and Alpine try and escape. When Ronan the Accuser arrives to lay waste to the city, it falls on the Avengers, along with an escaping band of hero pets (and one Land Shark) to potentially save the day – or at least, readers will soon learn.

Having read most of the various Marvel animal series on Marvel Unlimited, I will say that this one raises the stakes in unique ways. The story was a nice little reprieve from the dreadfully earthquake-shaken morning (my heart goes out to anyone in the tri-state right now) and so I highly recommend it as a cute distraction of comfort. Likewise, if you liked the scene in Avengers Endgame where Spider-Man and friends try and play keep away from Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet, that’s more or less what’s at stake and what happens here for part one.
