Black Market Narrative, the creative collective founded by Kyle Higgins, is in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign for a new entry into the Massive-Verse of superhero stories. Writer Mat Groom, artist Erica D’Urso, colorist Igor Monti, and letterer Becca Carey are returning for another volume of Inferno Girl Red, following the hugely successful first graphic novel Kickstarter and subsequent release as an Image Comics miniseries. Today The Beat is pleased to exclusively present the full first chapter of the original Inferno Girl Red graphic novel, which was also packaged as the first issue of the Image release.

Here’s how Black Market Narrative describes the first volume of Inferno Girl Red, and what’s to come in Volume Two:

When her new home of Apex City was ripped out of existence and cast into darkness, Cássia Costa had to embrace an ancient power to become the legendary hero INFERNO GIRL RED. She rose to the challenge, pushing herself farther than she ever thought possible – but though Cássia protected the city from its first major threat, it cost her dearly. Now, still reeling from a heartbreaking loss, Cássia must forge a relationship with a new mentor, and expand an unlikely team – because the consequences of her previous “victory” have come back to haunt her, and a villainous duo is on the rise! A fraught potential romance beckons, a long-held secret threatens to be revealed, and an unimaginable choice could see Apex City left defenseless! Can Cássia navigate it all… or even survive it all?

The Kickstarter campaign for the first volume of Inferno Girl Red ran in 2021, and more than doubled its initial funding goal. The campaign for Volume Two had a much more ambitious funding goal than its predecessor, and one that it’s well within striking distance of. Backers who missed the first Kickstarter can also add Volume One to their pledges for Volume Two, making it easy to catch up on the series.

Check out the full first chapter of Inferno Girl Red Volume One below. The Kickstarter campaign for Volume Two of the series is live now, and runs through Thursday, September 21st.
