SYFY has released new art and a new trailer for their forthcoming Deadly Class TV series. Here’s how the network describes the show, which is adapted from the Image Comics series of the same name by Rick Remender, Wes Craig, and Lee Loughridge:

Set in a dark, heightened world against the backdrop of late ‘80s counterculture, DEADLY CLASS follows the story of Marcus (Benjamin Wadsworth), a teen living on the streets who is recruited into Kings Dominion, an elite private academy where the world’s top crime families send their next generations. Maintaining his moral code while surviving a ruthless curriculum, vicious social cliques and his own adolescent uncertainties soon proves to be vital. Based on the best-selling 2014 Image Comics graphic novel by Rick Remender and Wes Craig, DEADLY CLASS is a coming-of-age journey full of ancient mystery and teen angst.

The new trailer focuses heavily on your typical high school issues – bullies, detention, dating – as Marcus adjusts to his new school, with a healthy amount of violence included for good measure. The trailer also provides a decent glimpse at some of Marcus’s teachers and classmates, including Benedict Wong (Dr. Strange) and Lana Condor (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before).

Deadly Class premieres January 16th at 10pm Eastern on SYFY.
