It’s been more than two years since the second season finale of the Harley Quinn animated series when the titular character (voiced by Kaley Cuoco) rode into the sunset with Poison Ivy (voiced by Lake Bell) finally embracing their romantic feelings towards each other. The wait for new episodes is nearly over as HBO Max has not only announced a release date for new episodes but has also unveiled the Harley Quinn Season 3 trailer.

Below is the description for the third season:

The mayhem and madness continue in season three of this biting and uproarious adult animated comedy series. Wrapping up their “Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour,” Harley Quinn (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) return to Gotham as the new power couple of DC villainy. Along with their ragtag crew – King Shark (Ron Funches), Clayface (Alan Tudyk), Frank the Plant (JB Smoove) – “Harlivy” strives to become the best version of themselves while also working towards Ivy’s long desired plan of transforming Gotham into an Eden paradise.

Originally streaming on the DC Universe service, Harley Quinn much like other DC Universe original content such as Young Justice, Doom Patrol, and Titans moved over to HBO Max. Some notable teases from the Harley Quinn Season 3 trailer include Swamp Thing and presumably Abby Arcane. Anyone familiar with the famous “Rite of Spring” story depicted in Swamp Thing #34 wherein the titular character and Abby had sexual relations, you can bet that the show creators will pull out all the stops for the animated series.

Harley Quinn Season 3 trailerLikewise, the Court of Owls (who will also be playing a role in the upcoming Gotham Knights video game) will be featured in the new season of Harley Quinn. And based on the trailer, things will go in the direction of Eyes Wide Shut.

Perhaps the most exciting tease from the trailer is the appearance of The Suicide Squad writer/director James Gunn. As revealed a few months ago, the acclaimed filmmaker will be playing himself directing a “biopic about Thomas Wayne.”

Harley Quinn Season 3 trailerHarley Quinn Season 3 premieres on Thursday, July 28 on HBO Max.
