Dynamite Entertainment has announced it is relaunching the Gargoyles comic in August, with series creator Greg Weisman returning to write, along with Gerardo Gambone (Gargoyles: Quest) on art, Robby Bevard on colors, and Jeff Eckleberry on lettering. The new, ongoing volume of the series will pick up with the heroes of the ’90s Disney cartoon in 1997, as they contend with the kidnapping of a new clan member, and more.

The full synopsis explains, “The titular Gargoyles only have eggs every 20 years, and the Manhattan Clan at the center of the saga have been keeping care of one playfully nicknamed ‘Egwardo.’ The only problem is — it’s been stolen by arch-enemy Demona! As the Defenders of the Night try desperately to track down the egg, they’re also faced with an awakened ancient, all-powerful evil with a vendetta against the entire world. All that and more can be expected each and every month in this new blockbuster series.”

Weisman says, “For me, this is a story thirty years in the making. One I’ve been longing to tell. So longtime fans are seriously not going to want to miss this. At the same time, it’s also a great place for new readers who know nothing about Gargoyles to jump aboard. We’re making sure that everything you need to know is right there on the page. Your Gargoyles addiction begins here and now!”

Dynamite’s revival of Gargoyles, which originally aired in syndication (and then on ABC) from 1994 to 1997, kicked off with a 12-issue series in 2022, that saw Weisman adapting many of his aborted plans for the show, and its unproduced spin-offs. The miniseries Dark Ages, Quest, and Demona followed in 2023, 2024, and 2025, along with various specials, reprints of older comics, and crossovers with the Fantastic Four and Darkwing Duck.

The new issue #1 will be released with a main cover by Meghan Hetrick, and variants by Drew Moss, Frank Paur, and Sebastian Piriz. It will also be in avaiable in blind bags, that’ll each offer three copies “featuring limited edition and exclusive variations on the cover pieces like lineart, foil and metal variants, and more surprises.” You can check out the variants and bag design below in the meantime.
