Dynamite has revealed blind bagged copies of the ThunderCats relaunch will include a new comic this week: ThunderCats: Lynxana, a one-shot by writer Nate Cosby (Cheetara: Worldbreaker) and artist Sebastián Píriz (Johnny Quest), starring Lynxana the bounty hunter. Lynxana never appeared on the original TV show, but was introduced in the fourth issue of the Marvel Comics series (created by David Michelinie, Jim Mooney, and Brett Breeding) in 1986.
Cosby outlined the premise, saying, “We snuck a western into the ThunderCats universe. A distress call gets sent out from a shady planet that’s home to the roughest bounty hunters in all the galaxy. Bluegrass (of SilverHawks) goes to answer the call, but gets shot down before he can even begin to investigate. What, and WHO, he finds on that planet, is gonna impact the ThunderCats comics franchise for years to come.”
The comic will set up a follow-up arriving in February 2027, that will in turn lead to Lynxana “crash[ing]” into the main series by Greg Pak and David Cousens, and the Cheetara comic by Saladin Ahmed and Andrea Arcari. Copies will feature further variations of the cover by Píriz, including printings in black-and-white, without the trade dress, or with a special ThunderCats logo.
Doubtless, this will make the bling bag practice even more controversial, given Pak and Cousens’s ThunderCats #1 was released last month. Hopefully, as was the case with Skybound’s blind bagged ROM special, the new comic will receive a general release later.
ThunderCats: Lynxana will sneak into ThunderCats #1’s blind bag copies tomorrow. You can check out an interior preview below beforehand. Issue #2 of the main series will follow on November 25, and Cheetara #3 will drop between them on November 18.
