In June, Skybound dropped a new ROM comic into M.A.S.K. #1 blind bags, setting off a new wave of discontent among readers who just want to… well, read comics, rather than go on a goose chase to collect the ones they think they’re buying.
Today, Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with Hasbro, announced open to order releases of both ROM Special #1 and M.A.S.K. Origins #1, allowing readers to intentionally pick up one, both, or neither to their preference.
ROM Special #1 reprints the icon’s surprise first appearance in the Energon Universe. Void Rivals co-creators, writer Robert Kirkman and artist Lorenzo De Felici, reunited for the standalone issue, which features main cover art by De Felici and variants by Christian Ward, E.J. Su, Nick Bradshaw and Jim Charalampidis, a foil die-cut mask cover by John Armor, and a blank sketch cover.
ROM and his companion Carpet will appear in future issues of Void Rivals, as well. Check out the covers for ROM Special #1 below.

M.A.S.K. Origins #1 is double-sized issue collecting the first appearances of M.A.S.K. and V.E.N.O.M. in the Energon Universe, as well as moments that led to the launch of the former. The issue features main cover art by series artist Pye Parr and variants by Jason Howard, Ethan Young, Danilo Beyruth and Neeraj Menon, and Ben Oliver.

ROM Special #1 ($3.99) and M.A.S.K. Origins #1 ($4.99) will be available digitally and at your local comic shop on August 26.
