Spend Halloween 2019 with your favorite flame-haired warrior. Dynamite Comics is releasing Savage Tales: A Red Sonja Halloween Special this week, featuring a new, extra-long story written by Mark Russell (Red Sonja, The Riddler: Year Of The Villain) and illustrated by Jacob Edgar (James Bond: Moneypenny). Dearbhla Kelly on colors and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou on letters complete the team while Erica D’Urso offers a cover inspired by the original Savage Tales #1.

The one-shot is a companion to issue #9 of the ongoing comic, which also drops this month. In this installment Sonja returns to the Sorcerers of Wigur-Nomadene, while in the Halloween special readers will see a flashback of their first encounter before Sonja becomes a legend. Her mission is to convince the sorcerers to bring her family and friends back to life.

“I saved the darkest chapter of the Red Sonja story for this Halloween Special,” said Russell in a statement. “The main series refers to an earlier visit by Sonja to the Sorcerers of Wigur-Nomadene, and this tells the story of that visit and the price she paid to try to bring her dead family back to life. Jacob’s style lends itself really well to this story of dark magic and loss and I think it will make a great entry into the canon as well as a self-contained story.”

Savage Tales: A Red Sonja Halloween Special will be available at your favorite comic shop on Wednesday October 16. Grab a digital copy on Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more. Head to Dynamite’s website for more info.
