Writer Mags Visaggio is getting rave reviews for Eternity Girl #1, (drawn by Sonny Liew) out this week from Young Animal, but she’s hardly resting. Coming in May, Visaggio has a new creator owned series from up and comer publisher Vault Comics: Vagrant Queen, which features art by Jason Smith, colored by Harry Saxon, lettered by Zaak Saam, with alternate covers by Natasha Alterici (Heathen).

Vault made a preview available to the Beat, and if you like the kind of energetic space opera Visaggio broke out with in Kim & Kim, you’ll definitely like Vagrant Queen. It has the same breakneck pacing and a wistful undertone of being stuck in a huge, crazy galaxy. Visaggio describes the book as being “Star Wars meets Cowboy Bebop if it was directed by the Coen Brothers,” and that’s not a bad comparison.

The story involves Elida, who was once a child queen, but was forced off her throne when she was ten and left to fend for herself while on the run from the revolutionaries who toppled her from the throne.

In the first issue, the now grown Elida gets mixed up with Isaac, an old rival who claims to have information about her long lost mother. Battles, chases and snappy dialog ensue.

Vault Comics made a big splash at ECCC this year, and I’m sure you’ll be hearing a lot more from them. VAGRANT QUEEN is another strong outing from Visaggio as well.

It hits shelves on May 30th, 2018.

And here’s an EXCLUSIVE preview!
