This preview includes includes spoilers about the conclusion of Heartstopper Vol 1, along with pages 11 through 25 of Heartstopper Vol 2, arriving on bookstore and library shelves on November 10th, 2020.
In Heartstopper Vol 2 by Alice Oseman, Nick and Charlie are back… and that means they are absolutely, positively going to have to deal with that kiss!
In Heartstopper Vol 1, Charlie Spring can’t help but fall for his classmate, sweet-natured Nick Nelson. There’s just one problem: Nick is straight! Or is he? The first volume culminates in the pair sharing a romantic kiss at a party… but when they’re interrupted by Nick’s friend, Nick flees the scene, leaving Charlie dejected.
In Heartstopper Vol 2, Nick and Charlie are going to have to sort out their feelings for one another. Are they just close friends, or is there really a spark of romance between them?
While it may be true that the course of true love never did run smooth, the romance of Nick and Charlie has had an especially interesting journey. The couple was first introduced in Oseman’s debut YA novel, Solitare, in which Nick is the younger brother of the narrator, Tori. While the pair are supporting characters in that story, they captured Oseman’s imagination, and she began to wonder about how the couple arrived at that point in their relationship (and where they go from there).
In 2016, she launched the Heartstopper webcomic, which quickly gained popularity, and in May 2020, the first volume of Heartstopper was released by Graphix in the United States. On November 10th, 2020, Heartstopper Vol 2 will arrive, including a mini-comic about Tara and Darcy, and with two-color illustrations throughout (take a look at some of these pages below!).
On top of that, the curtain hasn’t fallen on Nick and Charlie’s romance – far from it! In fact, Heartstoppers has even been optioned for television by See-Saw Films.
You’ll want to be sure and follow Oseman on Twitter for all of the latest updates on her work, and stay tuned to The Beat for more coverage of the upcoming Heartstopper Vol 2 release!
