10:45am to 1:00pm: Drafting Comic Book Contracts: A Practical Guide [CLE COURSE]:
This seminar has been approved for 2.5 CLE* credits in areas of professional practice for NY and 2.5 General credits in NJ. This is an intensive two-hour course: attendees will write a rough draft of key comic book agreement provisions, engage in client interview exercises tailored to the comic book industry, dive into mock negotiations, and issue-spot common problems in publishing contracts. Facilitated by seasoned comic book publishing attorneys, attendees will get a chance to issue-spot, draft, and engage in mock negotiations.

Octavia Butler fans rejoice!! FX is bringing “Kindred,” its newest drama series, to New York Comic-Con. Based on Hugo Award-winning author Octavia E. Butler’s wildly popular novel of the same name, “Kindred” is the very first adaption of a book by Ms. Butler to be produced for television or film. Join executive producer/writer Branden Jacobs-Jenkins with cast members Mallori Johnson, Micah Stock, Gayle Rankin, Austin Smith, Sophina Brown and Sheria Irving for a Q&A sharing how this visionary, fan-favorite story has been brought to life, and be among the first to see footage from the series ahead of its fall premiere exclusively on Hulu. “Kindred” centers on Dana, a young Black woman and aspiring writer who uproots her NYC life of familial obligation to claim a future in Los Angeles that, for once, feels all her own. The fan-favorite DC series make their New York Comic Con debut, featuring a main stage conversation with the cast of DOOM PATROL, followed by a conversation with TITANS executive producer and cast. In the upcoming fourth season of DOOM PATROL, the team unexpectedly travels to the future to find an unwelcome surprise. Faced with their imminent demise, the Doom Patrol must decide once and for all which is more important: their own happiness or the fate of the world? Join series stars Brendan Fraser, Diane Guerrero, April Bowlby, Joivan Wade, and Michelle Gomez for an exclusive discussion and first look of the upcoming season. Can cosplay be eco-friendly? Learn about the environmental impact of cosplay and how to make it better for the planet AND your wallet. This panel will cover the environmental impact of cosplay including mass-produced and handmade costumes. Audience members will be encouraged to consider the financial and environmental effects of cosplay and learn ways to reduce their “cosplay footprint”. Cosplayers of all skill levels are welcome with relevant tips provided for beginners and professionals.

It’s impossible to predict what the future holds…but these authors have a pretty good shot at it. Go on a journey from our present day to so many possible futures as envisioned by some of science fictions brightest stars. From secret kaiju-ridden islands to far-flung intergalactic societies Jennifer Marie Brissett (Destroyer of Light) John Scalzi (The Kaiju Preservation Society) Neon Yang (The Genesis of Misery) and Tochi Onyebuchi (Goliath) write stories about our futures that tell us about our present.

Women in Comics Collective International (WinC for short pronounced “wink”) is an artistic and informative initiative. It serves to highlight the merit and craftwork of marginalized voices especially that of Women and Queer Folx of color who work in the comics and multimedia industry. Race Gender & the Comic Book Medium is their ongoing panel discussion series that focuses on equity sustainability and justice when it comes to representation in the multimedia industry. In celebration of WinC’s 10 Year anniversary the panelists will discuss how the industry has evolved since the organization’s creation.
