wonder woman paradise island

Despite some rocky circumstances for the character to debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (read our review), Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman has been far and away praised as one of the stand-outs of the film. Now Entertainment Weekly is rolling out the first photo of Diana and her supporting cast on Themyscira – including Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), and her two military aunts General Antiope (Robin Wright) and Antiope’s lieutenant, Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli). According to EW’s report, this trio of immortals are each responsible for raising Diana.

From Patty Jenkins, the director of the film:

“She is the only child they raised together,” says Jenkins, calling from outside London, where she is deep into the film’s production. “And their love for her manifests in a different way for each of them.”

Hippolyta wants to shelter her from the outside world, Antiope wants to prepare her. I think we all know where this is going.

Jenkins also discusses the armor design of her Amazons:

“To me, they shouldn’t be dressed in armor like men,” Jenkins says of the women’s battle wear. “It should be different. It should be authentic and real—and appealing to women.”

They’ll apparently also be wearing flats for heavier fighting, so hopefully no Jurassic World arguments this time around.

Wonder Woman hits screens on June 23rd, 2017.

  1. I’m glad to see a Wonder Woman movie at all, but I wish they looked more like Hippolyta’s sisters in The Legend of Wonder Woman. I’m still more excited to see the WW movie than BvS.

  2. Whose bright idea is it for Amazons to have wedge heels? At least they can try to ride horses with stilettos – or that can be the excuse for having a warrior wear something that no human warrior would ever wear.
