For the past two seasons, the teen heroes of Marvel’s Runaways have faced off against their villainous parents known as The Pride, but for Season three it looks like they’ll be taking on a new foe.
Marvel has announced that actress Elizabeth Hurley will be playing Morgan le Fay, an evil sorceress who in the comics has faced off against heroes such as the Avengers. In a press release from the company the character’s threat level was hyped up: “A student of Merlin, she is considered the greatest sorceress of all time. With a black crow as her familiar and the ability to enchant objects, manipulate mystic energy and astral project, she is powerful and intelligent with a cut-throat wit.”
Hurley’s most recent television project was E!’s The Royals; she was also a part of The CW’s Gossip Girl which was also created by Runaways showrunners Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, which makes her new casting a creative reunion of sorts.
Hurley shared a brief post on Instagram about her excitement over joining the show.

Now what does this casting mean for Season 3 of Runaways? Season 2 introduced elements from the Runaways comic books such as Clarissa Thibeaux’s shapeshifting character Xavin, while also telling a unique storyline for the screen; it seems like this will also be the case for the upcoming season.

The Season 2 finale saw the diabolical, body-snatching alien and father Jonah kidnapping his daughter and members of both the Runaways and Pride. It will be interesting to see how Morgan fits into the overall scheme of the plot of this season as the character has never been a main foe for the Runaways in the comics. With the Runaways split up as of now in the plot they’ll somehow have to find their way back together to take on this new baddie. We’ll also have to wait and see how Morgan le Fay’s goals differ or align with The Pride and if she’ll be a friend or foe to them. If a wicked enchantress was coming after your children I’m sure you might not be too happy about it unless you wanted that to happen.
The introduction of Morgan le Fay could also provide development for Runaways member Nico Minrou. Like in the comics, the character uses the mystical staff, appropriately, called The Staff of One to cast a multitude of spells. The exact qualities of the staff and the true source of Nico’s powers are still a bit of a mystery to not only us, but the character herself on the series. With this new mystical character thrown in the mix we could all get some of the answers we’ve been seeking.
Production for Runaways Season 3 is now underway. You can see Hurley as Morgan le Fay when the series returns to Hulu later this year.
