Since the first season of Futurama in 1999, Dawnn Lewis has played the role of LaBarbara Conrad, wife of resident Planet Express bureaucrat Hermes Conrad. Plus, she’s also played myriad other roles on the show over the years. In the ongoing fourteenth season of Futurama on Hulu, Lewis plays several key characters, including Coco Charm in “The Charm Offensive” and Brainormous in “Lord Nibbler in the Nothingverse,” as well as LaBarbara in “Late Bloomers.”

To celebrate all three of these Futurama episodes being available for streaming now, Comics Beat caught up with Lewis over Zoom to find out more about her work on the currently ongoing season of the uncancelable animated sci-fi sitcom. You can scroll down to the bottom of the article to watch the interview for yourself on YouTube now.

In particular, we asked about the musical composition performed by Lewis for “The Charm Offensive.” In this episode, Lewis plays a teenage pop star who uses her musical mastery to form a “Charmy”… and she has her eye towards literal global domination. As she discusses in the video below, Lewis conceived of the melodies and harmonies of Charm’s songs herself while in the recording booth. This earned her a co-composer credit for the episode.

And in addition to sharing some of her thoughts on LaBarbara, Lewis also told us about a role she plays in the most recent episode of the show, “Lord Nibbler in the Nothingverse”: Brainormous. Lewis, who also played the role of Captain Carol Freeman of the U.S.S. Cerritos on Star Trek: Lower Decks, revealed that she was especially eager to portray this character because of the fact that she’s a Trekkie.
