EA shared its final trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to 2016’s Jedi: Fallen Order. The story “follows the continuing epic adventures of Jedi Knight Cal Kestis as he enlists the help of old friends and new companions in his fight against the growing threat of the Empire across the galaxy.” Set during the Great Jedi Purge, the war against the Jedi that followed Palpatine’s issuance of Order 66, the game blends content from the Original Trilogy and the Prequels. You can view the trailer below.

Based on all the footage EA has shared and an overview of the game, the sequel appears to be far more expansive and ambitious than the original, taking full advantage of its status as a next gen exclusive title to deliver a larger world, more impressive visuals, and significantly improved performance.

Like its predecessor, Jedi: Survivor is directed by Stig Asmussen and developed by Respawn Entertainment, the studio between the Titanfall series and Apex Legends. Respawn brought its signature style of action to Fallen Order, but the game came hot out of the gate, resulting in sometimes unbalanced gameplay and technical issues. In The Beat’s review of Fallen Order, this author wrote that the first game in the Jedi series had all the right ingredients for a great game, but needed more polish to deliver on its promise.

Developing a sequel is an opportunity to make those improvements and produce a game at a level of quality that Respawn is more than capable of achieving. Unlike movies, video game sequels are often superior to their predecessors. Between that fact and the pedigree of its developers, Jedi Survivor has the potential to be one of the standout games of the year.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor debuts on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC on April 28.
