Disney dropped the debut date and a teaser for their DuckTales revival this morning. The series will debut on Disney XD next summer with 21 episodes and two hour specials. Creative personnel include executive producer Matt Youngberg (Ben 10: Omniverse), story editor/co-producer Francisco Angones (Wander Over Yonder), and art director Sean Jimenez (Gravity Falls).

As you can see, the style has gotten a bit of an update and Webbigail is now allowed to be a regular – and handle a gun. Scroge McDuck, Donald Duck and Huey, Dewey and Louie round out the regulars whoe race around having adventures and searching to treasure.

The original DuckTales debuted in 1987 and brought the universe created by Carl Barks in his classic comics to the animated world, with the addition of a few more Disney Afternoon friendly characters like Launchpad McQuack.

DuckTales is the first show from the Disney Afternoon era to be revived although many have been calling for Darkwing Duck to make a comeback. In something of a buzzkill, Darkwing creator Tad Stones revealed that despite the presence of McQuack in both series, they aren’t set in the same universe. As always I’ll just say TaleSpin, TaleSpin, TaleSpin.

Here’s a previous promo from earlier in the year. At some point, they will leave their jeep, one hopes.

  1. 1) I am no longer an employee of the Walt Disney Company. 2) I am retired. 3) Frank Angones owes me sixty dollars so I will say one thing about the new DuckTales.

For those who are certain that the characters of DT and DW share a universe: they do. But it’s not the one you’re thinking of.
