This week’s Doomsday Clock #7 featured a new house ad for the series. The black-and-white image by Gary Frank featured Doctor Manhattan having apparently disintegrated a number of DC superheroes. Now, thanks to the added colors of Brad Anderson, it’s a little clearer who all has been Thanos’ed by the blue being. Anderson posted a colored version of the image, the variant cover to Doomsday Clock #9, on Twitter this morning:

It’s a striking image for sure, Manhattan’s glowing figure in the foreground and the wisping remains of the heroes exiting their costumes in the background, all set on what appears to be Mars. The assortment of characters is interesting as well; in addition to Justice League mainstays Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, and Aquaman, other characters include Captain Marvel Shazam!, Stargirl, Raven, Red Robin (Tim Drake), Etrigan the Demon, Zatanna, and the Phantom Stranger. The inclusion of Red Robin is of particular note considering the character’s arc post-Rebirth–plucked from the timeline by Mr. Oz in an apparent attempt to protect him from Manhattan, Tim escaped, and ultimately became aware of changes to the timeline and set off with Stephanie Brown in search of more anomalies. Hopefully his inclusion on this cover means that Doomsday Clock will be picking up that thread from the end of James Tynion IV’s Detective run.

Doomsday Clock #7 is in stores now.

  1. Now we need a miniseries called “Dr. Manhattan Kills the DC Universe” where he zaps everyone in an anticlimactic fashion, all the while spouting off existential observations on life and the universe.
