§ Deadline and other outlets confirmed Spider-Noir will not return for a second season. The show, produced by Sony for MGM+ and Prime Video, and starring Nicolas Cage as the 1930s Spider-Man variant Ben Reilly/The Spider, premiered to positive reviews in May, but vanished quickly from Prime’s daily Top 10 after its bingewatch release, and subsequently deemed too expensive to continue as a result.
Cage responded in a statement, saying, “For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man. Onwards, upwards, inwards.” Sony and Amazon plan to continue their Spider-Man Universe partnership with another, undisclosed project, while Cage will be heard again as Spider-Man Noir in next year’s Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The show ultimately bowed out with five Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday, September 6, for Outstanding Stunt Coordination in Comedy Programming; Sound Editing in a One-Hour Comedy or Drama Series; Title Design; Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode; and Cinematography for a One-Hour Series. The late Rob Reiner also won Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for The Bear. § Over at Dragon Con, Something is Killing the Children won the Dragon Award for Best Comic Book/Graphic Novel, beating out Absolute Batman, Superman & Wonder Woman, Daredevil, and X-Men: Elsewhen. It marks the first from the organization for creators James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera. Other winners this year included Project Hail Mary, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and Hollow Knight: Silksong; you can see the full list here, and check all the nominees here. Issue #50 of Something is Killing the Children will be released on October 7.
§ In more awards news, AwardsWatch shares Yahya Abdul-Mateen II won the Black Reel TV Award for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Comedy Series last month, for his work on Wonder Man. Tiffany Johnson also won Outstanding Directing in the genre for the sixth episode, “Callback,” while Angela Barnes earned the equivalent TV Movie or Limited Series award for Ironheart‘s finale. Terrance Harris also won Outstanding Costume Design for Ironheart, and Stephanie Filo and Lyric Ramsey won Best Editing for Daredevil: Born Again.
§ Finally, Deadline reports an animated film version of Godslap is being produced by Lyrical Media (How to Blow Up a Pipeline). Kellan Stover will direct the film, based on the Bad Egg series created by Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White and many more, at Powerhouse Animation (Castlevania) for a 2028 release.
The source material, created in 2021, follows three friends in “a grimy blight of a city ruled by slaps,” who “fight to find their purpose in this world, to protect the ones they love and, ultimately, to exact revenge against those who stand in their way.” It was previously adapted into a short film in 2022.
