Per The Hollywood Reporter, Daredevil: Born Again will end with its third season next year. No reason was given for ending the Disney+ revival of the Netflix series, which premiered in 2025, although viewership of the second season was only reportedly half that of the first when it was released earlier this year. Showrunner Dario Scardapane is also said to have left the season, which is currently in post-production, following the end of his contract, and it is unclear if he has been replaced or not.
Born Again, which saw Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio reprise the roles of Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Kingpin/Wilson Fisk, was originally conceived as a soft reboot of the Netflix version of the characters, and announced in 2022 as an 18-episode series, with Matt Corman and Chris Ord as head writers. However, when filming paused during the Hollywood strikes the following year, Marvel decided the show wasn’t working, and brought in Scardapane and directors Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead to replace them, and overhaul the series into a direct continuation of the original show.
The cancellation of the show (and Wonder Man‘s second season) means there are no live-action Marvel series on the horizon for the first time since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s premiere in 2013. However, the Reporter states “the company continually has three to five live-action shows in development, and sources say it just greenlit a spy thriller referred to as Zodiac.” The name Zodiac has been applied to countless characters and teams at Marvel Comics, although the genre suggests it would involve the incarnation led by Nick Fury’s evil brother Jake Fury/Scorpio.
Regardless, it will cap off an incredible 12-year run for Cox, 43, and other actors who made their MCU debuts on Netflix’s Daredevil in 2015. Cox played the title role on all three seasons of the Netflix series from 2015 to 2018, as well as 2017’s The Defenders, and before Born Again, returned to the part in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022), and Echo (2024). He also voices a variant of the character on Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2025-), season two of which will premiere in January.
Born Again season three will pick up with Murdock being incarcerated after publicly revealing his identity as Daredevil, and is expected see the return of the Netflix Defenders roster, including Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist, and more who are still officially unconfirmed. Much like how the original Daredevil‘s third season arrived in-between Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, it will arrive between Doomsday (out December 18) and Secret Wars (December 17, 2027), despite presumably taking place before them.
In the meantime, the penultimate live-action Marvel series for the foreseeable future, VisionQuest, will premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, October 14. The last currently announced live-action Star Wars show, Ahsoka season two, will follow on January 20.
