During Disney’s D23 Entertainment Showcase, Lucasfilm dropped the first trailer for Ahsoka season two, premiering on Disney+ on January 20, 2027.
The second season of the show, which debuted back in 2023, picks up with Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) stranded on Peridea, the planet in another galaxy from their own, as they continue to pursue Baylan Skoll (Rory McCann, replacing the late Ray Stevenson), who seeks a power he believes he will end all wars.
Hayden Christensen returns as the Force ghost of Anakin Skywalker, and in flashbacks with Ariana Greenblatt as the Clone Wars era Ahsoka, while Huyang (David Tennant) is shown battling Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) with multiple lightsabers.
Meanwhile, in the main galaxy far far away, Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) declares war on the New Republic (which he still dismissively refers to as the Rebel Alliance), and arms his forces, including Captain Enoch (Wes Chatham), with Nightsister magick.
Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) is seen joining the Republic’s starfighters, clashing with Enoch, and hugging the last member of the Ghost crew he hadn’t reunited with yet, Garazeb Orrelios (Steve Blum, fresh from his appearance in The Mandalorian and Grogu). Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Senator Xiono (Nelson Lee) also appear, presumably overcoming their differences to face the Imperial resurgence.
Star Wars: Starfighter director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Gosling also appeared at the showcase to debut footage to attendees, and unveiled a new logo (shown above), utilizing the 1977 Star Wars design by Dan Perri, instead of the more familiar one by Suzy Rice.
Gosling revealed his character’s name is Kade Auberon, and that he is “a guy from the wrong side of the galaxy, whose fate is intertwined with the fastest starfighter ever built.” The movie, which also stars Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams, will be released in theaters on May 28, 2027, during the 50th anniversary of A New Hope.
In more Star Wars news, Disney+ dropped the trailer for the LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian special, releasing on Wednesday, September 2. The comedic take on the show’s events, narrated by Amy Sedaris as Peli Motto, will arrive on the same day as The Mandalorian and Grogu is added to the streaming service.
Speaking of which, Disney+ also revealed the film will receive a behind-the-scenes video podcast, featuring director Jon Favreau, co-writer Dave Filoni, and cast members Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Grogu himself. It will launch on September 2 as well.
