§ In Marvel reprint news, Dark Horse will release Marvel Black & White: Barry Windsor-Smith’s Weapon X, the first in a new series of oversized, black-and-white hardcovers, on November 24. It’ll include the original 1991 Marvel Comics Presents story about Wolverine’s backstory, other Windsor-Smith X-Men comics, a new essay by Chris Ryall and John Lind, and more. Act 4 Publishing, meanwhile, announced an Artist’s Edition of Beta Ray Bill by Daniel Warren Johnson (2021), due out in comics shops on February 3, and at bookstores on March 2, 2027.
§ At Bloody Disgusting, BOOM! unveiled five new Hellraiser one-shots, titled Hellraiser Resurrections, releasing weekly in September. The comics consist of New Wounds, by Mike Costa & Paco Camallonga; The Onanistic Ritual by Zac Thompson & Gavin Mitchell; The Deep Gospel by Tini Howard & Jenna Cha; Nero Villagallos O’Reilly and Francesca Ciregia‘s Hell’s Council; and Sarah Gailey & Alessio Avallone‘s The Return of the Priest. They coincide with the 40th anniversary of the films’ source material, The Hellbound Heart, and will pave the way for a new ongoing and miniseries.
§ Warner Bros. released the “Supergirl Suite” from Claudia Sarne (Shining Girls)’s score for the new DCU movie. The track is by turns melancholic and heroic, futuristic and traditional. The film, which previously had Ramin Djawadi and Tom Holkenborg/Junkie XL attached to score, releases in theaters on June 26.
§ Deadline states Pamela Adlon and BD Wong have been cast on Prime Video’s Sex Criminals series. Adlon will play Bev, the mother of protagonist Suze (Imogen Poots), while Wong will play Oliver, a bank manager. It was also stated executive producer Kumail Nanjiani will play a character named Dane. Adlon will be a series regular, while Wong and Nanjiani’s roles are recurring. The eight-part show, also starring John Reynolds, is based on Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky‘s risque comedy comic of the same name.
§ Variety reports a TV version of Ibrahim Moustafa‘s graphic novel RetroActive is in the works for Hulu, with Bobak Esfarjani (Manifest, WandaVision) attached to write and executive produce. The source material, published by Humanoids in 2022, follows a covert war between time-traveling spy agencies trying to rewrite history, and a US agent who becomes stuck in a time loop. The Handmaid’s Tale showrunner Bruce Miller will also serve as an exec producer.
§ Per a statement shared via her Instagram, the late Marjane Satrapi will be laid to rest in Paris’s Père Lachaise Cemetery, on Friday, June 19. The ceremony will take place at the crematorium at 1 pm local time, and according to Voici magazine, it will be open to the public. Satrapi, the author of Persepolis, and co-director of the film version, died of grief, aged just 56, on June 4, a year after the passing of her husband Mattias Ripa.
§ Finally, actress Margaret Kerry, who provided the live-action reference for Tinker Bell in Disney’s 1953 version of Peter Pan, died on Thursday, June 11, following a battle with lung cancer. She was 97. Kerry began her career as a child, appearing in three Little Rascals shorts, and was part of the ensemble of ABC’s first sitcom, The Ruggles, before being cast by Disney; she also provided the voice and reference for the red-haired mermaid in the film. In later life, she worked in Christian radio, served on the board of Annie Award organizer ASIFA-Hollywood, and wrote a memoir, Tinker Bell Talks: Tales of a Pixie Dusted Life. She is survived by three children, who asked for donations to North Carolina’s Thalian Association Community Theater in lieu of flowers.
