Diamond has just released the 12 Gold sponsor comics for next year’s Free Comic Book Day—and it’s who you would expect with one addition: Bongo, the little company that could. Bongo has been around for more than 20 years, consistently sells 100,000s of comics around the world and yet…we forget it’s there. Not this year!

DC’s cover is still under wraps…doubtless a new event to tantalize and delight us. Marvel’s cover is only an Avengers logo so same rules apply. IDW is going with Rom Space Knight, so all your early 80s fantasies can come true.

The Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) Committee has selected the twelve Gold Sponsor comic book titles for the comic book industry’s most anticipated annual event, Free Comic Book Day. FCBD takes place every year on the first Saturday in May at participating comic book shops worldwide with next year’s event taking place on May 7th, 2016.

The comics were carefully chosen by comic shop retailers on the FCBD Selection Committee and feature something for everyone from superheroes, to action-adventure, and all-ages favorites. The Gold Sponsor publishers include Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics, IDW Publishing, Image Comics, Archie Comics, Bongo Comics, BOOM! Studios, Dynamite Entertainment Titan Comics, Valiant Entertainment and Viz Media.

“This is a very exciting time for Free Comic Book Day as we celebrate our 15th anniversary, and we couldn’t be more thrilled at the selection of Gold level comics this year,” said Dan Manser, FCBD Marketing Director. “The Gold Sponsors, who comprise the top publishers in the comics industry, have really brought a lineup of top-quality titles for all ages and tastes. We hope that this will be our biggest year yet, and that fans new and old will flock to their local comic shops on May 7th to help us celebrate this milestone for comics!

This year’s Silver Sponsor comic books will announced on Wednesday, December 16th. A complete listing of all fifty FCBD titles, including the twelve Gold Sponsor comic books and thirty-eight Silver Sponsor comic books, can be found in the January issue of Diamond Comic Distributors’ PREVIEWS catalog, on sale at all comic book shops December 23rd, 2015.

  1. I really hope DC can connect more with their offering this year. Marvel’s Secret Wars offering – while one of our slower movers, ended up brining in a LOT of repeat traffic to my shop this past year, and built up one of our best selling titles – which tricked through their line. DC’s went faster, but for whatever reason, didn’t bring people back. Possibly? The lack of a #1 for folks to come back to.

  2. Bongo has been putting out FCBD offerings for years, which can be verified by just peeking in my son’s room…

  3. Compared to last year:
Returning: Dynamite, Bongo, Boom, Archie (* Dark Circle last year), Dark Horse, DC, Titan, Viz, Image, Marvel, IDW,

Valiant is new to Gold, being a Silver Sponsor last year.Last year, SpongeBob (United Plankton Pictures, via Bongo) was a Gold Sponsor.
