The Beat is happy to announce that Deanna Destito has been promoted to the position of Managing Editor of Comicsbeat.com. Deanna has been an integral part of the Beat staff since 2018 and was formerly Deputy Managing Editor. 

In her new position, Deanna will help plan our overall coverage in addition to overseeing the Beat’s team of reporters and columnists. 

In addition, Rebecca Oliver Kaplan has been promoted to Deputy Managing Editor, where she’ll help with planning and scheduling. And Humberto Saabedra has joined the Beat this month as Manga Editor, to coordinate our growing coverage of manga, anime and related fields.  

ROK (she/he) is a So Cal-based pop culture journalist and critic, who specializes in science fiction fandom, queer culture, and the comic book industry.  His writing can be read at the Eisner Award-winning PanelxPanel, Comics Beat, The Mary Sue, Popverse, MovieWeb, Geek Girl Authority, StarTrek.com, and in Double Challenge: Being LGBTQ and a Minority, which she co-authored with her wife, Avery Kaplan. As a Board Member at Prism Comics, he is honored to serve on the Q Con planning committee. 
 
 

Humberto Saabedra has been a journalist since 2006, first covering technology and the telecommunications industry until 2015. He was then picked up by Crunchyroll in 2011 while publishing and running AnimeNews.biz to establish Crunchyroll News until April 2024. This has been his life so far and he continues his pioneering work at The Beat.
