Following the conclusion of last night’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, The CW has released a new teaser for the upcoming Stargirl DC-TV series. The show, which will debut later this year on the DC Universe app before airing on The CW, follows teenager Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) as she discovers the cosmic staff of Starman and, with the begrudging help of her new step-father Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson), takes up the mantle of Stargirl. The new teaser for Stargirl featured our first look both at Dugan’s robotic S.T.R.I.P.E. suit and at the JSA as they will appear on the show.

The new trailer features some similar beats to the teaser released last month. Courtney discovers the staff, learns about Starman (Joel McHale) and Pat’s history with him, and heads out on her first adventure.

As Pat tells Courtney about the JSA, the above photograph is shown. It features a full classic line-up for the Justice Society, including Green Lantern Alan Scott, Flash Jay Garrick, the Hawks, and even Johnny Thunder and his Thunderbolt. The team is gathered around a table bearing the name of the team, just as they appeared on the cover of their first appearance in All-Star Comics #3.

The JSA is then shown being defeated in battle by what looks like The Shade and perhaps Solomon Grundy. Doctor Mid-Nite (Henry Thomas) gets a close-up as he’s being consumed by a living shadow.

A few quick shots of S.T.R.I.P.E. follow. The suit of armor looks massive, which makes sense since Luke Wilson will need to be able to ride around in it.

A few shots of villains follow, with what looks like the Injustice Society assembling. From left to right, there’s Tigress (Joy Osmanski), Sportsmaster (Neil Hopkins), I’m guessing The Shade (possibly Christopher James Baker, though his character hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the suit looks right for it), and Icicle (either Neil Jackson or Hunter Sansone, I can’t tell if that’s Sr. or Jr. there). Behind The Shade lumbers a CGI Solomon Grundy.

The other villain shown is Dragon King, played by Nelson Lee. That’s an ominous-looking costume for sure.

The extended look at Stargirl came after a brief cameo appearance by the JSA at the end of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover:

The brief shot included Stargirl, S.T.R.I.P.E., Doctor Mid-Nite, Hourman (Lou Ferrigno Jr.), and Wildcat II (Yvette Monreal), and established this group of heroes as living on Earth-2 in the newly reformed multiverse.

There’s a lot to chew on from both the Crisis tease and the new trailer. The wildly comic-accurate Justice Society is thrilling to see, as is the inclusion of the team as part of the Arrowverse’s new multiverse. It does seem crazy that The CW would do an entire crossover consolidating all of their DC superhero shows onto one Earth and then immediately introduce a new DC show set on a different Earth, but also I’m not an executive, so what do I know.

Stargirl is set to debut on DC Universe and The CW in Spring of 2020.
