Welcome to The Beat’s crowdfunding round-up: a collection of some of our favorite campaigns from the week including one-shots, on-goings, anthologies and everything in-between! This week, we’re checking out the ninja/horror story, Jisei, the start of a new fantasy epic in Ennead, and more.

JISEI Book 1: Manga Edition

In Jisei, a veteran ninja Kana is sentenced to “1000 Deaths”, exiling him to a hell plagued by yōkai and the supernatural. 

Originally a webmanga, Jisei is making the bid for a print run with this Kickstarter campaign. The series follows veteran ninja Kana, as he fights his way through his sentence of 1000 deaths, courtesy of supernatural beasts which take inspiration from Japanese horror and dance-drama. Hernandez is shooting for a 100-page softcover book, coming in at 5.5×8.5,” with a hopeful February 2021 release. Check out a preview on the campaign page, or read the series online here.

Ennead: The Rule of Nine, Epic Fantasy Re-Envisioned

Issue #1 of an Original Graphic Novel Series featuring classical fantasy elements with a modern filter.

Ennead: The Rule of Nine is the starting point in a new fantasy series consisting of four issues. This campaign is for the first issue – Not Too Far From Home – and is the introduction to the world of Amashik. It follows a burgeoning medieval bounty hunter, a queen struggling with power, and a king in the midst of a decades-long war. Ennead issue #1 is 36 pages of gorgeous black-and-white artwork, and creators have already been paid for their work. All they need now is help from backers to produce and distribute.

MOTHER TRUCKER

A sci-fi comic about a space-truckin’, ass-stompin’, wrestling goddess”

Wrestling fans, this one’s for you. Animal Bob Anger is Kickstarting his space-wrestling comic about a goddess trucking through the galaxy searching for her long-lost daughter and looking to become the greatest Truck Off champion; it’s Barbarella meets Wonder Woman meets Running Man. WAHCOMMO: a sprawling dark fantasy graphic novel by Luis NCT

LOTR with a Nordic skew featuring campaign-exclusive variant hardcover by award-winning artist KARL KERSCHL (Isola).

Wahcommo is a new fantasy graphic novel from Empty Zone and Kiladelphia creator, Luis NCT. It’s a Nordic-inspired story following two chosen warriors on a traditional journey to recover the treasure of their forebears – and fight their fair share of goblins, ghosts, and trolls along the way. The hardcover is a 216-page, 8.5×11” book with curved corners, spotUV and, for anyone who backs the campaign, a signed tip-in bookplate.
