It’s time for another look at which digital comics Comixology has on sale right now.  What are the good reads and what are the good buys?  We’ll be taking a look mostly at the Comixology sales that are ending by Thursday and what an eclectic set of digital comics it is.

(Disclosure: If you buy something we link to on our site, we may earn commission.)

As Halloween beckons, there’s an enormous amount of Halloween horror sales ending between now and Monday.  So first we’ll have a look at the non-horror (or less horror-y) sales and then we’ll do a quick round up of all the Halloween sales.  Most of those we’ve already looked at in previous installments.

The Marvel Venom/Carnage Sale, running through Thursday (11/5) is only sometimes horror.  If you want the horror version of that pantheon, I’ve very fond of the Gerry Conway/Mike Perkins Carnage run from ’15-’17. It’s basically set up like a 70s Marvel horror comic as a cast of misfit heroes from the horror fringes chase Carnage, who’s on a quest for the Book of Darkhold. For something in a different vein, there’s the Rick Remender Venom run when Flash Thompson was paired with the symbiote.  That has some Tony Moore and Tom Fowler art early on, too. It’s a good chance of pace. The current Donny Cates/(initially) Ryan Stegman Venom is really science fiction with horror touches around the edges and is somewhere in between the others in tone. Plenty of other series in the link, including the original Spider-Man appearances.  There hasn’t been a shortage of Venom or Carnage in last ~30 years.

Way, way removed from the horror season, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Sale has 7 volumes of Jeff Kinney’s YA juggernaut on sale through Halloween.

The “Dark Horse World of The Black Hammer Sale” is the Eisner-winning Black Hammer series by Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston, as well as the spin-off titles the series has generated.  Black Hammer really does have a universe behind it. It’s an homage to silver age superhero comics and starts out with the mystery of what went wrong after a crisis of sorts as the heroes find themselves trapped for decades in a mysterious farm community… and expands from there.  Top of the list for indie superhero work. This sale runs until Monday (11/2)

Also ending on Monday (11/2) is the Image Graphic Novel Sale, which has been popular with Beat readers. And it is filled with a lot of great stuff.  A few more things we haven’t mentioned: Lazarus by Greg Rucka and Michael Lark is a masterful dystopian tale where the United States has been broken into feudal territories run by the families behind the surviving corporations.  Yes, the pharmaceutical trade figures into it, too.  The “Lazarus,” a sort of genetically enhanced bodyguard and field general, of one of the families is starting to look outside her bubble and isn’t liking what she sees.

Now if you want to go really old school, there’s Stray Bullets. This mid-90s Eisner-winner by David Lapham was an extremely influential crime comic.  If you like Criminal, this is worth a look.

The Wicked + The Divine by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie always struck me as this generation’s Sandman.  Recently completed, it’s about gods reappearing in a human host on a 90 year cycle and becoming pop stars.  Of course, there’s a question of why they burn out in two years and why they’re looking over their shoulder?  These gods may be a family, but they’re not a happy one. The bundle deal at the bottom is your best value for the whole set.

Finally, there are couple founding Image books still around with their numbering intact and they have rather large backlists: Todd McFarlane’s Spawn and Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon.

Now let’s go down the list of full-on Halloween / Horror sales, most of which are expiring shortly.  We’ve been through most of them once before, so you can browse at your leisure.

Ending Sunday (11/1)

The Marvel Morbius Sale. Unless you’re really into 70s Marvel horror, I might stick with the Amazing Spider-Man installments with The Living Vampire.

Morbius

The Image Horror SaleHighlights include Walking Dead, Ghosted, Kill or Be Killed and Gideon Falls. There’s a lot here and it’s worth browsing.

Image Horror

The Marvel Zombies Sale. When superheroes hunger for your flesh. They’ve had a lot of fun with this one over the years.

Marvel Zombies

The DC Halloween Sale. Another large one that’s worth some dedicated browsing time. American Vampire, DCeased and Lucifer might be more Halloween than some of the Batman and Harley Quinn titles, but it covers a lot of ground. (Though the Hellblazer selection is thin for a Halloween sale.)

DC Halloween

The Fantagraphics Halloween Sale. Highlights here include The EC Library, Gahan Wilson and Steve Ditko’s Archives.

Fantagraphics Halloween

The Submit Horror Sale.  This is the pure indie horror section that cuts a pretty wide swath. Edgar Allan Poe’s Snifter of Terror is a winner.  Doc Frankenstein by the Wachowski siblings and Steve Skroce might also draw attention.

Submit Horror

The Valiant Horror Sale. I can’t recommend the Britannia series of mini-series enough. (Single issues are cheaper than digital tpbs.) Also worth noting – they have the complete previous runs of Shadowman from previous incarnations of Valiant in single issues.  There were some notable creators like Steve Englehart, Jim Shooter, David Lapham, Garth Ennis, Ashley Wood, Jamie Delano, Charlie Adlard, DnA and Clayton Crain that worked on the older version.

Valiant Horror

The Dark Horse Horror Sale.  Another particularly deep one.  The Mignola-verse (don’t sleep on Lobster Johnson). Creepy and Eerie. Neil Gaiman comics, too.

Dark Horse Horror

Ending on Thursday (11/05)

The Dynamite Horror Sale. Dynamite has a few horror properties with distinct fan bases.  Notably Army of Darkness, the Chaos Comics universe and Vampirella (with a sizeable back catalog on sale).
