In an announcement made today, Friday, August 19th, 2021, Archie Comics revealed that the expansion of their horror offerings would continue this November with Chilling Adventures in Sorcery #1, a one-shot anthology hosted by none other than Madame Satan!
Escape from Hell
The frame for the anthology will take the form of an expansion of 2020’s Madame Satan one-shot, with the titular character not just planning her escape from Hell, but also playing host to the reader for a series of spooky stories featuring Riverdale’s finest.
In addition to stories that pay homage to seminal horror classics like Evil Dead 2 and The Twilight Zone, the issue promises the inclusion of additional horrifying bonus content to satiate any undead appetite.
The creative team includes script writers Eliot Rahal, Amy Chu, and Evan Stanely, with art by Vincenzo Federici, Derek Charm, Evan Stanley, Pat and Tim Kennedy, Matt Herms, and Jack Morelli, with a main cover by Julius Ohta and a variant cover by Francesco Francavilla.
The 32-page anthology arrives at your local comic shop on November 3rd, 2021, with a Final Order Cutoff of October 11th, 2021.
And don’t forget, this is just the latest expansion of the Archie Horror line, which has also recently announced an upcoming ninth issue of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, arriving in October, plus a series continuing the story started in the Netflix Chilling Adventures of Sabrina streaming series.
The Chilling Adventures in Sorcery one-shot anthology is the latest project to be announced under Jamie L. Rotante’s expanded role as Senior Director of Editorial at Archie Comics. According to the press release from Archie Comics, this is just the first of many forthcoming anthologies from the publisher.
“One of my goals in editorial is to create more opportunities to bring a wide range of talent into the Archie Comics fold and champion underseen writers and artists,” Rotante said in the press release. “This is just the first in a variety of anthology-style one-shots that we’ll be releasing as we close out 2021 and enter the new year. Working in this format gives us the chance to tackle a variety of genres and collaborate with exciting new talent and long-time favorites simultaneously. We can’t wait to share more news soon!”
