Archie Horror

Last month, The Beat reported on a WEIRD MYSTERY: Archie Comics Director of Social Media & Publicity Ron Cacace promised a forthcoming announcement, along with a specific mention of the Archie Horror line. Well, folks, it looks like we have a best-case scenario on our hands, because today, Archie Comics announced that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #9 is arriving at your local comic shop on Wednesday October 13th, 2021.

But that’s not the only Sabrina comic in the offing this year, with The Occult World of Sabrina set to continue the story of the Netflix narrative right where it left off.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Arriving on October 13th (spooky), Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #9, “Witch War Part 3: The Sacrificial Lamb” will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa with art by Robert Hack and Jack Morelli, and will feature both a main and variant cover by Hack.

Variant by Hack.

The story will pick up right where it left off in August 2017’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #8, answering the prayers of Archie Horror devotees (or at least a few of our monkey paw wishes).

The Occult World of Sabrina

In addition to the return of Chilling Adventures, Archie Comics is also celebrating Sabrina’s sixtieth anniversary by continuing the narrative of the Netflix series in The Occult World of Sabrina, written by Sacasa (who was the showrunner on the Netflix series) and illustrated by Audrey Mok (no stranger to Archie Comics thanks to books like Josie and the Pussycats and the main Archie series).

While a specific release date for The Occult World of Sabrina has not yet been announced, the press release from Archie Comics promises it will arrive later this year, with an initial story arc that bears a title which will surely make the cold, dead hearts of the show’s fans flutter: “A World Without Sabrina.”

Happy Sixtieth Sabrina

Sabrina the Teenage Witch first appeared in Archie’s Mad House #22, which was released in October 1962, in a story by George Gladir, Dan DeCarlo, Rudy Lapick, and Vince DeCarlo.

This Hack cover pays homage to the very first panel to feature Sabrina… and the TV seems to feature Afterlife with Archie!

While that may mean that Sabrina’s sixtieth anniversary isn’t technically until October 2022… Who’s the hell’s going to complain about the return of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina?

Autumnal Archie Offerings

On top of the arrival of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #9, there are plenty of things to get excited about from Archie Comics this autumn.

Which book from the publisher are you most excited about this autumn? How will you be celebrating Sabrina’s sixtieth? Let The Beat know, either here in the comment section or over on social media @comicsbeat!
