Image/Skybound Entertainment has announced that The Walking Dead Deluxe will feature six connecting variant covers by Charlie Adlard when it arrives on comic shop shelves in October.

Earlier this year at the Skybound Xpo, series writer Robert Kirkman announced that The Walking Dead Deluxe, a colorized version of the originally black-and-white comic, would be lumbering toward your local comic shop beginning on October 7th, 2020, with new issues arriving every other week after that.

Adlard is certainly not a stranger to TWD, having taken over for original interior artist Tony Moore beginning on issue 7 in 2004, and remaining on as penciller all the way until the (surprise) final issue of the series last year with #193.

Never fear: according to the press release, Moore himself – responsible for the first 24 original covers for the series – hasn’t been forgotten in the rerelease. In addition to the connecting Adlard’s covers, the first six issues of The Walking Dead Deluxe will feature “a variety of other variants,” including covers by Moore, David Finch, Julian Totino Tedesco, and Arthur Adams.

In addition to colors by Dave McCaig, The Walking Dead Deluxe will also feature “Cutting Room Floor” back material in each issue, which will include Kirkman’s handwritten scripts along with commentary on the story’s creative evolution.

The press release, which you can read below the Adlard connecting variant covers, emphasizes that the colorized TWD, the variant covers, and the “Cutting Room Floor” features will not be collected in trade paperback any time soon, so you may want to plan some socially-distanced expeditions to your local comic shop this October if you’re serious about securing your variant covers of choice.
