DC Comics Month-to Month Sales: April 2014 — Eternal Stormwatch of the Spotless Mind

41
Greetings, sales charts fans! It's time once again to look at DC's sales figures. DC take five of the top ten spots on the Diamond sales charts, all of them Batman-titled books thanks to the debut of the weekly Batman Eternal. However, DC fall to their lowest Dollar Share and Unit Share in quite some time due to a combination of Marvel's relaunch of Amazing Spider-Man (with a boatload of order incentives and variant covers leading to over a half million in sales) and their own inability to get out many of their bestselling titles on a consistent schedule—Forever Evil, Sandman Overture and Superman Unchained) didn't ship this month, with Forever Evil's lateness causing a ripple effect through other titles like Justice League of America.

Roz Chast’s Can’t We Talk about Something More Pleasant? is a hit

3
One of the top graphic novels of the first half of 2014 is surely Roz Chast's Can't We Talk about Something More Pleasant?: A Memoir; the long time New Yorker mainstay has penned her FIRST (amazing) graphic novel and it's a true classic even though the subject matter sounds grim. The book follows Chat's experiences with her aging and increasingly vulnerable parents, a sad topic but a part of the human experience that a lot of us are going to have to deal with from one side or another some day. This being Chast it's also full of laughs, as she limns her eccentric sometimes annoying parents in rich comic detail. Anxiety and love mingle, as they do in real life.

Comic Book Men is finally looking for some Comic Book Women

9
AMC's Comic Book Men is a ratings success in its post Walking and Talking Dead time slot, but it still gets flak. One of the oft-cited issues with the show is that by the very title, it represents an obviously outmoded way of looking at the comic book industry. To wit, women are flooding into the comic book field as readers and creators and already make up about 40% of the potential audience. Perhaps to reflect the wider audience—and to add a different look from the generally middle-aged white guy cast members—the show is putting out a casting call for women to come in and sell their geeky items for the upcoming fourth season. CBM has become a geekier Pawn Stars/Antiques Roadshow (as so many shows do) so this is a great chance to sell those Yogi Bear jelly jars* you've been hoarding all those years.
