First Second editorial director and cartoonist Mark Siegal, will be on tour for SAILOR TWAIN, this fall. Dates are above and in the link. If you haven't seen SAILOR TWAIN, the rich story of a 1887 Hudson River barge captain who finds a mermaid, and what unfolds from that, you are missing an imaginative comics yarn that joins other comics about waterbourne voyages, like Far Ardden and Set to Sail. Heck it's a whole new comics genre.

Did you miss it? Yesterday was Lumberjack Day, a holiday best celebrated by wearing plaid, sporting a beard (either naturally grown or homemade), and eating pancakes. The holiday was created back in 2005 by two good friends: graphic novel author Colleen AF Venable and comedy producer Marianne Ways. It was invented in response to International Talk Like a Pirate Day, which falls a week prior. The pirate jokes were getting old, so the team moved on to another comedy troupe: lumberjacks. Lumberjack Day falls annually on September 26.

Brooklyn Book Festival offers great comics programming

New Yorkers who are are still in withdrawal from the amazing SPX just concluded, rejoice—this weekend's Brooklyn Book Festival features a full line-up of comics programming, and some comics-focused programs during the week that will keep you in comics nirvana. The festival takes place all day Sunday, September 23rd, but there are satellite events listed below.
