Nice art: The Valiant #1 by Lemire, Kindt and Rivera

1
The dynamic duo of Jeff Lemire and Matt Kindt seems to have set up shop for some of their non-creator owned work at Valiant Comics, and new they're joined by Paolo Rivera for The Valiant, a new four issue prestige mini-series. An they've got Franceso Francavilla doing variant covers as well—along with Kindt and Lemire—so it's a nice art-a-palooza. It's nice to see Valiant stepping out with new titles, and especially great to see Rivera back on interior art—he's best known for his impressive MArvel covers but since stepping back from that we haven't seen nearly enough of his stylish art around.

DC Comics Month-to Month Sales: July 2014 – 75 Years of Batman

22
The column is already running late, so I won't belabor too many points here… July 2014 was a record-setting month in many categories for the Diamond NA-served comics market (see John Jackson Miller's analysis for the full skinny). DC shipped a whopping 83 comics this month (up from 68 in June). As expected, the Batman 75th Anniversary covers don't do as well as the Bombshell covers did last month. Whether this is because retailers (as a group) order-ordered on the Bombshell covers and were correcting, or because there was a perceived lesser demand for the Batman covers it is hard to tell; I suspect a combination of factors. It may be several months before things settle down in the new way of ordering variants.
