Whedon-driven SHIELD pilot a go at ABC

0
Showing that they were anxious to pass the Hollywood IQ test about spinning off a popular movie into a TV show run by an experienced TV vet who also directed the popular movie, ABC has ordered a pilot for a SHIELD TV show, to be guided by AVENGERS director Joss Whedon, Deadline reports. Whedon will co-write the pilot along with brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen (who is Jed's wife). This is the trio responsible for Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, and other Whedon-verse projects, so get ready to start that letter writing campaign right now.

Marvel Month-to-Month Sales: July 2012

36
The AVENGERS VS X-MEN crossover continued to dominate both franchises in July. There are also two new ongoing titles - CAPTAIN MARVEL and X-TREME X-MEN - which unusually launch in the middle of the big crossover. And while Marvel have generally eased off on their miniseries of late, we have two this month - SPACE PUNISHER and INFERNAL MAN-THING. In terms of market share, DC won the month, leading Marvel by 37% to 35% in units and 33% to 32% in dollars. The other big news, of course, is the remarkable sales of WALKING DEAD #100, which topped the charts with an extraordinary estimated sale of over 335,000 - but that's a story for another column. (It also seems like a good opportunity to remind people that these figures only reflect sales to the direct market in North America. Total sales are therefore bound to be higher once you factor in sales through other channels, most obviously to the UK and Europe.)

Marvel release a first look at All-New X-Men #1

0
Stuart Immonen's artwork is one of the key selling points to, well, anything he is involved with, and All-New X-Men #1 is no exception. The premise of the book is that the original five members of the X-Men - Angel, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman and Beast - have come to the present for some reason (no, there's no sign of other founding X-Men Shortpack and Sage at this point in time). They are in the present, and they are... in the present. And Stuart Immonen is drawing it! So now you know the premise of the series in its entirety. The regardless point being, Marvel have released some of Immonen's pencils for the first issue of the series, written by Brian Michael Bendis. And unsurprisingly, they're spiffing, corking, and several other 1960s adjectives.

Ike Perlmutter profiled…from a distance

0
A few details of Ike Perlmutter's moves within the Disney hierarchy leak out in thisprofile in the LA Times, by brave writer Dawn C. Chmielewski who gets, naturally, zero cooperation from Disney, Marvel, or Perlmutter. Ike is of course Marvel's legendarily cheap—and successful—CEO, who has begun to make his influence felt inside the Magic Kingdom, as shown by the rumors of some epic battles that Chmielewski's uncovered:
