NEW: First photo of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman

0
Well now. A new day, a new action-oriented reveal for a WB movie character, in this case, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle in next year's THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Textured catsuit? Check. Goggles? Check. Red lipstick? Check. Big-ass motorcycle? Check check check.

NEW: First photo of Henry Cavill as Superman

0
Warner Bros. has released the first picture of Henry Cavill as Superman, and as opposed to previous reveals, they have decided against a standing poser and gone for something way more action-filled and dramatic. And it works. While the trunks are in shadow, this does seem to be the traditional, red-pantied Superman look. Gone, however is the spit curl. The look of the photo is more than a little "Jim Lee-esque" with its heavy grading and dramatic lighting. In our opinion, not a bad update -- but what do you guys think?

WildStorm: The last lunch

0
It's a week of changes for DC. The last remnants of those who are moving West have packed up shop, and the WildStorm offices in La Jolla are closing for good, ending nearly 20 years of history, innovation and comics. To mark the event, an alumni lunch was held. Apparently the turnout was insane. The final group shot awaits, but above is a sampling, with Hank Kanalz, John Nee, and Carla and Jim Lee. Jim Lee tweeted:

DC offers JLA and Flashpoint at midnight

0
August 31st will be quite a day for DC. On that day they will offer only two comics for sale -- Flashpoint #5 and JLA #1. And stores will be able to sell them at midnight:

Warners won’t give up on Green Lantern movie franchise

20
While given everything that went on, having another go at Green Lantern seems like a surprising move, Warners really has no choice. They've made a huge investment in their superhero franchises, and with Harry Potter gone, they need another tentpole franchise. Batman gets rebooted after next year and Superman is a big question mark at this point, so throwing money and marketing partnerships at it until the Happy Meals stick seems to be the only way to go.

The 100 most prolific DC Comics writers

0
What writer has made the biggest contribution to the many universes of DC? Now that question can be answered, at least in terms of volume. Jason Kirk has been playing with the Grand Comic Database and come up with a list of the top 100 DC Comics by page count. You'll need to go to the full link, but here's the top 20 for arguments sake and some of Kirk's talking points:

Batgirl’s one-woman crusade yields results: Lee and DiDio acknowledge quest for diversity

0
It seems that Kyrax2's lonely crusade at Comic-Con -- booed and laughed at and told to shut up -- has yielded results, as the internet has swelled one voice to thousands. Last yesterday, DC Entertainment co-publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee posted a statement called, simply, We hear you:

SCOOP: What really happened at the infamous Dan DiDio/Hire More Women incident

I was only able to attend one DC new 52 panel, and it was the first one, the one that has gotten a particular soundbite spread all around the internet. DC has made all their panels available as podcasts, and I guess if you are a real Kremlinologist you'll want to comb over these tapes for clues and evidence. I do want to talk about the panel I attended, because there are some things that happened that I witnessed that I haven't seen reported, and some other private moments that I witnessed that I think add to the whole picture. So here's what I know:

The Watchtower: Comic-Con — Superman, Batman, Archie, William Shatner, Joss Whedon, and Other Sexy...

0
Well, another Comic-Con is drawing to a close, with the traditional annual Buffy sing-along, this time in Hall H. (Perhaps they could also add a "Mayhem of the Music Meister!" event as well?) So, here's some more interesting tidbits from Comic-Con...

SDCC Saturday Big Two: Fables Fairest, Cable Reborn, Demon Knights, Animal Man, Swamp Thing,...

0
Saturday brought a boatload of news from DC, which isn't surprising, given the number of comics panels they held.

The Watchtower: Comic-Con — Sex, Rock’n’Roll, and Even Crazier Stuff!

0
Well, the second full day of Comic-Con is coming to an end, and there's been lots of amazing stuff announced! I've diligently sat deep in Stately Beat Manor, watching the news feeds, so you don't have to! Read on!
