The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths Arrowverse crossover, already packed with guest-stars and returning heroes from past TV shows and movies, just got a little more super. TVLine reports that Crisis has added Tom Welling to the five-hour event’s roster, reprising the role of Clark Kent that he played for ten years on Smallville. Welling will join other Supermen Brandon Routh and Tyler Hoechlin as part of the event.

Long before The CW had an Arrowverse, The WB had Smallville, the adventures of Superman When He Was A Teen. Running for ten seasons, Smallville charted the path of young Clark Kent, played by Welling, as he discovered his powers, navigated the requisite Teen Angst, and grew into the Man of Steel we all know and love. The finale of the series saw Clark finally become Superman, with a time jump that ended with Welling doing the iconic shirt-open to reveal the Superman emblem and costume. That was, unfortunately, the most we saw of Welling as Superman, as all other shots were either extreme close-ups of Welling’s face or faraway shots of a CGI red-and-blue blur. Will Crisis finally give fans a full look at Welling as Superman?

Welling won’t be the first major player from Smallville to appear in the Arrowverse. Sam Witwer, who portrayed Agent Liberty during the most recent season of Supergirl, played Doomsday during Smallville‘s 8th season. Actress Erica Durance, who played Lois Lane on the series, has also previously appeared on Supergirl as Kara’s mother, Alura Zor-El (she replaced Laura Benanti in the role following the show’s move from CBS to The CW). Perhaps Durance will reprise the role of Lois alongside Welling’s Clark, which would make sense considering the Smallville finale featured their wedding.

The five-part Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover will air this fall on The CW.
