Are you ready for a new Midnight Society? Nickelodeon revealed its cast for the upcoming limited series revival of the ‘90s horror anthology classic Are You Afraid of the Dark? set to premiere this October.
The cast includes Sam Ashe Arnold (Best.Worst.Weekend.Ever.) as Gavin, Miya Cech (Rim of the World) as Akiko, Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, The Worst Witch) as Louise, Jeremy Taylor (It, Goosebumps 2:Haunted Halloween) as Graham, and Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick, Black-ish) as Rachel. Rafael Casal (Blindspotting) will portray Mr. Tophat, The Carnival of Doom’s ringmaster.
The new version of the show will be written by BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace) and directed by Dean Israelite (Power Rangers movie, Project Almanac). The miniseries will be three hour-long episodes featuring the group sharing a tale centered on the Carnival of Doom. Unfortunately, the events of their spooky story begin to come to life.
The Canadian produced original Are You Afraid of the Dark? created by DJ MacHale and Ned Kandel debuted in 1990 and aired on Nickelodeon from 1992 to 1996 with a revival in 1999. The innovative genre show offered a horror experience that was not only directed at younger audiences, but was also told from their perspective.
This new incarnation is said to “coincide with the upcoming Are You Afraid of the Dark? theatrical movie from Paramount Pictures, Paramount Players’, and Nickelodeon Movies, in theaters October 2019.” The movie’s release date, however, is currently up in the air. Originally set for October 4, it was bumped to October 11, and now is expected to release later as some behind-the-scenes adjustments are made.
