As Avatar: Seven Havens, the third series in the beloved Nickelodeon franchise, premiered on Paramount+ yesterday, series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko revealed yet another show, Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, has been ordered to series. A prequel, Kuruk will follow a younger version of the avatar from the Northern Water Tribe (who preceded Kyoshi, Roku, and Last Airbender protagonist Aang), as he travels the world, and learns to master all four elements.

The press release elaborates the show follows the “rebellious teenage” Kuruk, and his pet Nikik, as he “bucks thousands of years of tradition by choosing to learn the four elements through globetrotting adventures, staying one step ahead of his angry teacher, rowdy pirates, and chaotic spirits – all while helping the world in his own unique ways.”
At the series’ New York Comic Panel, showrunner Bryan Konietzko stated Wave of Chaos will be the most comedic Avatar show to date, something reflecting how Kuruk lived during peacetime. It contrasts with the character’s eventual life story, which was described in previous Avatar projects as taking a dark and tragic turn.
Incidentally, Kuruk has not been the subject of any of the Chronicles of the Avatar novels yet, with the books spotlighting Kyoshi, Roku, and Kuruk’s predecessor Yangchen instead. The next installment of the series, The Tempest of Sonam, will similarly star the Air Nomad who was introduced in this year’s Aang movie.
It was also announced Seven Havens has been renewed for a third and fourth season (or Books, in Avatar parlance). Seven Havens Book 1: Survival, which follows the new twin avatars Pavi and Nisha (the reincarnations of Aang’s successor Korra), premiered with three (of 12) episodes this week, and three will continue to be released a week, until the season finale arrives on Friday, October 30.
