If you’re a comic book reader in Brooklyn, then you already know Anyone Comics is one of the best local comic shops around. A big part of this is due to the community-building work owner Dimitrios Fragiskatos has put in to turn the location into a garden of creative expression. One of its greatest and most popular events is the Brooklyn Pride Comic Book Fair, which has been going for a few years now and was even one of the first of its kind to come back responsibly after the COVID pandemic shuttered us all in. It’ll back for another round this year on June 17th 2023 from 12-6pm, both in-store and on its sidewalk (located on 1216 Union St., Brooklyn).

The fair has always featured an interesting balance of indie creators, up-and-comers, and established voices. This year’s lineup includes Lara Antal, Danny Lore, Magdalene Visaggio, Sami Kerwin, Liam Donnelly, Ben Kahn, and more.

As has been tradition from the beginning, thanks to the planning expertise and infectious enthusiasm of the late comic creator and tarot card artist John Jennison, the event will be followed by the hotly anticipated (Un)Masked Ball afterparty (an integral part of the event’s identity). It’ll take place just around the corner from the shop, at Branch Ofc. 225 Rogers Ave., Brooklyn, and it’ll go from 6-9:30pm. Drag performances, burlesque, arts and crafts, and drinks will abound in this ticketed event.

The Brooklyn Pride Comic Book Fair is highly recommended for fans that clamor for events primarily focused on comics. It’s a relaxed atmosphere that lends itself to conversation and comics appreciation. Dimitrios is always around and up for deep dive discussions on all things comics, from the popular to the obscure. If you’ve never been to Anyone, then this is your chance to add another comics shop to your favorites list.

If you decide to go, be ready for a day of discovery that’ll make you want to come back for more.
