The sidewalks in front of Anyone Comics in Brooklyn have become one of the most important spots for indie comics in recent times and it looks to grow its reputation with its newest event, the Access Guide Black Comic Fair.

Access Guide

The event is scheduled for July 31st, 2021 at 1216 Union Street, Brooklyn, NY (from 12pm-5pm) and it celebrates the release of The Access Guide to the Black Comic Book Community, a sourcebook put together by Anyone Comics owner Dimitrios Fragiskatos, The Beat‘s own George Carmona 3rd, and Heavy Metal editor Josephe Illidge.

The book offers a fairly in-depth look in black comics as both a part of the industry as a whole and as a unique community within it. It’s been regarded as a road map, but it can also be seen as a comprehensive view of the constellation of black comics. It includes information on black conventions, publishers, groups, and creators for the purpose of providing larger visibility and continued support.

The Access Guide Black Comic Fair will feature a selection of the creators and other important figures featured in the book—ChrisCross (Static Season One), Joseph Illidge (MPLS Sound), George Carmona III (Access Guide to the Black Comic Book Community 2020-2021), Kwanza Osajyefo (White), Jamal Igle (Wrong Earth), Danny Lore (Champions), among others—sharing a space that is now legitimately known as a site where some of the most interesting and necessary comics conversations take place.

As an added incentive, attendees a one-time opportunity to acquire a print of the Access Guide signed by its creators, Black AF and Good Girl creator Kwanza Osajyefo, and ChrisCross, the artist behind the Guide’s cover.

Since it first opened its doors, Anyone Comics has been an advocate for not just independent comics but for underrepresented groups looking for safe spaces of expression. The shop has been host to several LGBTQ comics fairs and gatherings and is always looking out to further build a vibrant comics community in its location.

Based on the store’s track record, Anyone’s community building has been highly successful, and the Access Guide Black Comics Fair is set to further cement that.

Funds acquired from the sale of The Access Guide to the Black Comic Book Community go to the Dwayne McDuffie Fund. Follow Anyone Comics on Instagram and Twitter @anyonecomics for more information.
