Following last night’s midseason finale of The Walking Dead, AMC premiered a thirty-second teaser for the mainline show’s third spinoffThe Walking Dead: World Beyond. They have also announced that Emmy Award-winning actor Julia Ormond (Gold Digger, Temple Grandin, Mad Men) has joined the cast as a character named Elizabeth, the leader of a formidable force.

Check out the teaser trailer below:

The trailer differs from the usual The Walking Dead tone, offering something more hopeful and, dare I say, a little more YA? It’s refreshingly upbeat, with the voice-over referring to the zombie apocalypse as more of a restart for them than something they’re dreading. That could be the approach that justifies the existence of World Beyond, but only time will tell.

Ormond commented on her casting, saying, “I’m so thrilled to be working with The Walking Dead team — I absolutely love how they write for women in particular; a lovely, talented cast and great to be back with AMC.”

Here’s AMC’s description of the series:

The Walking DeadWorld Beyond will focus on the first generation raised in the zombie apocalypse. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.

With The Walking Dead reaching the midway point of its tenth season, it’s nice to be able to revisit the world from the perspective of blank slate, new and original characters. I’m personally excited to see where they go.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond is premiering in Spring 2020.
