Brooklyn’s Scott Eder Gallery has announced an impressive show for next month devoted to art, sketches and other drawings from Will Eisner’s A Contract With God, the groundbreaking graphic novel that helped inspire comics storytelling in the US. IT’s the first time the art hyas been shown and offered for sale, so it should be quite the event.

Will Eisner: A Contract with God
June 14th to August 15th, 2013
Opening reception June 14th at 6 PM
Scott Eder Gallery
18 Bridge St., Brooklyn, NY

A Contract with God, and Other Tenement Stories was published in 1978, and while you can argue here or there what was the first complete graphic novel to be published—certainly they were way ahead of the game in Europe with TinTin to name but one—it was a forerunner of much that was to come—as well as an affecting story of Jewish tenementlife in its own right.

  1. I’m really looking forward to this. I noticed that that three pages were sold through Heritage awhile back (These are the only pages that were sold apparently) and it was noted that the art was drawn on vellum and then taped to the drawing board. I’ll be curious to see what the originals look like.

Note to IDW: Anyone up for A Contract With God Artist’s Edition?
